Top 7 benefits of exercise for your body and mind

1.      It Can Make You Feel Happier: Exercising produces a happy hormone called Endorphins. These endorphins minimize the anxiety of exercise by blocking the feeling of pain and are often associated with a feeling of euphoria. It’s observed that on the days one works out their mood is a lot happier and feel more productive compared to the days they don’t.

2.      It Can Help with Weight Loss: Having a full-time job and an inactive life, it’s easy to pile up calories and fat, especially around the belly and the hips. Hence, it’s important to give your body some cardiovascular exercises to keep that weight in check. By running for around 30 minutes, you can burn an approximate of 300 calories.

3.      It Is Good for Your Muscles and Bones: Exercise builds and strengthens muscles, which protects bones from injury. Strong muscles also give stability and improve balance and coordination. Exercise improves blood supply to the muscles and surges their capacity to use oxygen. Outdoor exercises such as swimming and bicycling can help build and maintain strong muscles and having cardiovascular benefits. Weight-bearing and resistance exercises are the best for bones since they force you to work against gravity. These include walking, hiking, jogging, tennis, and dancing. Resistance exercises, like lifting weights, strengthen bones too.

4.      It Can Increase Your Energy Levels:  – Exercising regularly increases our stamina and strength. This helps daily activities like climbing stairs become easier. It increases energy levels by strengthening the circulation and the heart muscle. When your body becomes more active internal mechanisms like metabolism and blood flow increase.

5.      It Can Reduce Your Risk of Chronic Disease: Sedentary lifestyles increase causes of Chronic diseases like diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, depression and anxiety. You get prolonged life and reduced disease risk with a minimum of 45 minutes of exercising. The first 20 minutes of the workout, if someone has been deskbound, provide most of the health benefits.

6.      It Can Help Skin Health: The sweat caused by working out helps to keep the skin supple and cleans off the pores. It also reduced wrinkles as it maintains healthy levels of the stress-related hormone ‘cortisol’. Furthermore, by toning your muscles helps to reduce the appearance of cellulite.

7.      It Can Help Your Brain Health and Memory: Your brain is no different from the rest of the muscles in your body. Exercise boosts memory and thinking by improving mood and sleep, and by reducing stress and anxiety. It increases heart rate, which pumps more oxygen to the brain. It also releases a plethora of hormones that nourishes the growth of brain cells. Boxing for instance; Sparring or punching a bag sharpens the memory by challenging your mind and muscles to combat each move. Thus, improving hand-eye coordination.

My first class at the Golden Gloves Fitness

The following is an experience from a female member at our fitness gym in Vaughan:

When it comes to workout I have never been fascinated by commercial gyms, in the past, I did gym regularly for three years which garnered no result. My routine was cardio and abs on day one, upper body on day two and lower body on day three and repeat. However, this week, I decided to try out ‘Golden Gloves Fitness’, from the very first step into the gym, I felt a positive and energetic vibe.
The gym is well equipped for the requirements of boxing.

‘Boxing’, being a male-dominated profession it was refreshing to see many females getting trained and some as professional MMA fighters. Alex, the coach has a natural knack for teaching and is very patient yet strict with all his students.

After a quick introduction, Alex pushed the timer at which I had to start punching the smallest punching bag in the room until the end of the buzzer. After a few breaths, I was made to lift light dumbbell weights followed by a body bar workout. To keep the momentum going, Alex pushed the timer again, this time I had to punch a bigger punching bag with the help of gloves, its ideal to get your personal set of gloves but in case one doesn’t have it, the gym provides them to you. After punching the 2nd bag, I was made to do the second rep of dumbbells, body bars and disk weights along with some squats. Off went the buzzer again, this time I had to punch the 3rd largest bag on the floor. In the third rep, we ran around in circles with a few stretch exercises followed by dumbbells, body bar and disk weights, additionally a roller to stretch the abs. Buzzzz, it was time for punching the 4th largest bag and by now I was breaking some serious sweat.

Finally, it was time for some abdominal workout on the inclined bench followed by a series of stretching exercises to ease the tensed up muscles. At the end of that one hour, it was indeed a satisfying full body workout under the supervision of Toronto’s best boxing coach. It is like an indoor boot camp perfectly suited for Canadian snow. The gym is located close to the Vaughan subway station making it easily accessible even by the TTC. I have just enrolled myself and I highly recommend the same for you.

An account of a weights-lifter at our gym

The following is a reflection & findings of a weight lifter at Golden Gloves Fitness:

I have been lifting weights since 2016 for about 5-6 times per week. In other words, barely missing a day. Usually doing the bench-press and lifting heavy dumbbells. The other day I went to Golden Gloves Fitness in Vaughan to hit the bag and was shocked that I did not have as much as power as I expected. The results really did fall far from my expectations.

What I found was that during the last couple years I accumulated a lot of muscle but not enough stamina. A lot of curves but not enough strength. And most of all, I really did not feel like I was dense enough. Why is that? It only took me until the next day to find out. The answer is: impact. There was not enough of  'impact' being sent back to my muscles & bones when I lift weights. I pumped them, sure. But, I did not use them as a skill or technique.

Boxing really did made me realize that density is super important for power. You don't want to be only bloated with muscles but you also want them to be stronger and resistant rather than just having a 'cotton-candy' body. Thankfully; hitting bags, pads and practicing punches with a partner allowed me to become stronger. The next day, my bones felt denser, my muscles felt more compact and, yes, I had that good muscle 'ache' feel that really do send the signal of progress to yourself and your body.

I also found my respiratory system improved substantially just from a single day at this boxing gym! Now, I did not do much treadmill or running before. I strictly stretched and did weights. When I first came to Golden Gloves, I was out of breath after a couple rounds! I don't smoke but at the same time my running was left to a minimum throughout the years. I was left out of breath after the first round and after the second round I was really starting to feel winded. This has led me to think that lifting weights does not have that much impact on breathing. Luckily, boxing really does get your breathing going and afterwards you feel great! It is a shock how fast boxing makes respiratory system work. No wonder those boxers are so fast with their hands & feet and can last so long in the ring!

Finally, I am that guy who needs a lot of work before breaking a sweat. At the gym when I was lifting weights, it sometimes took me 20 minutes to be drenched in sweat and sometimes I barely broke a sweat at all. However, when I was boxing, I broke a sweat within 10 minutes! And, I mean that real sweat. That potent , fully drenched from head to toe sweat. I couldn't of been happier because once you break that first sweat the time flies and you know you are going to benefit from your workout the next day.

This is my take and experience when comparing boxing to weight lifting and I hope this insight will benefit you too. I really do recommend to mix lifting and boxing together just to see how hard you can punch that bag. However, doing weights alone felt like it was a cause without an effect. After this experience, I am definitely going to mix the two up from now on and I will surely follow up on my progress later. As always stay fit and looking for ways to better yourself! Until next time, I wish you all the best in your body building progress.

There is Boxing and then there is everything else

Being focused and avoiding distractions is the main topic of today here at our gym in Vaughan. Over here we like to separate everything from our paramount goals and that is: becoming the best and the fittest. But, how do we do that? That is the prize question. The biggest obstacle that most people face that we notice is their thoughts. Such as: “I can’t”, “I don’t want to”, or “I rather have a _____ (insert your delight)”. These types of thoughts are the ones that keeps people from being all the best they can be.

“I rather have a donut because it feels good”. Well, guess what? Being fit feels even better! You get
endorphins, hormones and positive energy pumping through your body and if it is done right there is only positive impacts to it when being compared to sugary stuff or any other bad habit. At our gym, we make sure that you do your training right; our coach Alex has a keen eye for this and avoid redundant exercising at all costs. Finally, boxing really does get your body & circulation pumping so that you do reap the benefits of being active. Simply make it a part of your life.

“I can’t”. You are saying this because you are mixing fitness/ boxing with other unrelated situations. You got to separate & isolate working-out from everything else and you will feel much better. If you still find yourself struggling to get to the gym simply say this to yourself: “this is me, it is a part of my life”. Or, formulate sayings that work best for you. This leads to our next philosophy; at our gym we feel out what works best for YOU! Our programs are custom tailored for specifically your body. We understand that everybody is different, with a different learning curve and that is why we make sure that we progress with you to higher fitness levels.

“I don’t want to” is another one of the most common sayings when it comes to training. We hear this so much that we are tired of it also, but we also observed that once people begin exercising and break that first sweat; they right away want more! We cannot stress this enough. Stress what? The once you break that first sweat everything changes saying. And, after you do get sweaty, you really do think that there is boxing and then there is everything else; you literally put everything aside and start saying “it can wait until I am done working-out” instead. Indeed, the tables do turn around quickly once you have the right mentality and we are dedicated to help you do that; you will be back for more & more, our guarantee!

We just want to go back to our programs and how things function here at our gym. We first assess your level of fitness/ boxing and then we take it from there. We provide you with all the tools & knowledge that you need to be successful in your bodybuilding process. That’s right, we really do have that personal approach to each & every person that comes through out doors because we are more than just a gym we are wellness, health and fitness center for anybody who wishes to improve their life.

If you are interested in our boxing and/or fitness programs, contact us today to hear how we can help you become all the best that you can be. We are always looking forward to being in touch with you and to be here for you every step of the way. We are located just north of Toronto and we are dedicated to being your to go to stop for fitness and overall wellbeing. And, as always, stay tuned for more information on boxing/ fitness related news, info, and advice from Golden Gloves Fitness & staying fit!

The importance of cardio exercises

How do we make our boxers last in the ring so long? How come they are so fast? These are the types of questions we get at Golden Gloves. The reason for them being able to be so quick, so agile is because we have them do cardio; a lot of cardio work! It is very important to be able to breathe well during a match because you run out of breath quickly, even within one round! How do you avoid being winded or being out of breath? Again, doing cardio work, of course. So, what is it that we exactly do to improve that at our gym boxing & fitness in Vaughan? We will get right into this question in today's news.

At our gym don't be surprised to be asked to make laps outside. This is routine and yes, we do believe it is better than the trend mill. How come you may ask? Firstly, the traction that you get from the ground is much different than the trend mill. You will see better results in muscle build-up in your legs running outside rather than from a trend mill, our guarantee. Secondly, wouldn't you rather enjoy the great outdoors when it is not cold outside; rather than running on some machine inside a building? A lot of people think they can bypass running outside by going on the trend mill, but, you know what, running outside is not that bad after all.

After you are done your laps, we don't leave cardio just there. We have you do skipping rope, jumping jacks, fast movements around the bags and once you have your breather going: sparring. This is when we test how well you breathe. We pay close attention, with a keen eye on how you are breathing. But, there is more benefits from having a respiratory system then just for boxing. Breathing well also means stress reduction, increase in confidence and aligning yourself with the nature of the world. That's right at our wellness center, we are here for you and for everything.

So there you have it, the key to our success in the ring is the breather. It is really important emphasize on cardio exercises and we do them all the time here at our gym in Vaughan. If you are interested in our classes, get in touch with us today! We are always looking forward to be hearing from you and improving your overall health. Stay tuned for more fitness, boxing and health related news. And remember: stay healthy, my friends!

Boxing is not only physical but also mental

This discussion has been waiting at our Boxing & Fitness gym in Vaughan for a long time: boxing is not only physical, it is mental. What do we mean by that? Today we will get into the details in the mental components in the sport of Boxing. Indeed, focus is very important in this sport. You want to land your punches on target. How do you perfect that? The answer is concentration. Use your mind to direct your arm at the bag. Strength isn't everything. Feel out your bag and use your mind to spot the good points to punch.

Indeed, at first this is rather challenging to comprehend. What does the mind have to do with physical strength? It does not have so much with strength but rather spotting weak points that you gotta punch. Strategy is key in boxing. Hitting the chin is much more effective than lending a bunch on the forehead. If you are mentally exhausted, these techniques are easily forgotten. This is when you train your mind to direct the punches accurately & effectively.

You don't want to over-exhaust yourself. You can avoid that by using your mind to plan out a strategy to defeat your opponent. Your mind needs to run a thousand thoughts a second in order to spot that weak spot and that is where you play it. Remember, every opponent is different and has different capabilities so do not ever underestimate your challenger but rather out smart him or her. It is never a good idea to dive into a spar without any plan at hand.

So, let's just simplify it a little bit, shall we? Use your mind to direct your punches at the target you want to hit. Hit the weak spots of your opponent to the achieve your goals. This is all great but now you can transfer this knowledge in other areas in life! As your mind gets sharpened in ring, it remains tuned on the street! The trick is to keep on practicing because just like the body, your mind will decline if you don't 'feed' it. So keep focused, my friends and always have a list of achievements you want to accomplish.

Thank for reading our more passive blog, we may find our main blogs on our official website www.goldenglovesfitness.com . For Good Fitness Results Listen to your Body

Welcome to our day-to-day, more casual blog about our daily fitness life here at Golden Gloves blog. It is here where we discuss fitness, boxing, health and wellness. Today we are discussing how to get into the mood of working out and getting the best results out of your workouts. For most people, the hardest part of training is the beginning and getting into it. Especially if they have skipped a lot of days. There are many ways you can 'get back into it'. Let's go over them.

Firstly, don't look at the clock! The only time there is red tape is if it is past 9 PM. Otherwise, watching the clock closely will make you dread getting into the gym and while working out. The time moves slowly because you're watching it and not realizing the fact that the time will fly by once you start working hard in the gym. Personally, I don't even have a sports watch on when I work out, I put it aside on a table and use it as a timer instead, looking over from time to time but never consistently.

Secondly, BE COMFORTABLE. Having a hard time breaking a sweat? Maybe it is because your sports shoes are not comfortable enough or maybe because you have too much on your mind? Get rid of those barriers. Before you begin your workout, just focus on it mentally. Physically, dress comfortably in your gym clothes and make sure there is nothing interrupting your workout. Interruptions are the leading cause of incomplete workouts.

Thirdly, feel out your body, where it is stiff carefully stretch that area. Where there is not enough muscle, develop that portion. Taking notes is helpful, but only for some. I personally just take mental notes. I say okay: today it is my legs because my calves are not developed enough. Pay close attention to the physics of your body. Every persons' body is different and has different requirements: you know, deep down, what works best for you. Also, make sure you break that sweat, it contains unwanted substances that need to flushed out and that sweat sends a signal to your body that is is being worked.

Lastly, outside of the ring or the gym, have keen interest in the sport. Watch videos, talk to people about it, attend matches, and simply be all about it. At Golden Gloves fitness we eat, breathe and sleep boxing & fitness, it is all what we are about. It is easier for it to be in the mood because we are set and finely tuned to be training everyday or every other day. We make sure we are comfortable but at the same time ready for new techniques. We also keep a fun atmosphere and love to discuss boxing, fitness and wellness results.

If you are interested in consistent boxing & fitness results, please feel free to contact us today. We are here for you and your wellness. There is never a dull day at our sports gym in Vaughan, we are always looking into how we can switch things up when it comes to training and how to teach you how to be fast and effective. So if you feel like your body needs some work, don't think twice and contact us today to find out how we can assist you to become all the best that you can be.

Boxing, Fitness & Rehabilitation

Welcome to our Blogger page! Before we get into this time's topic, we would like to mention how our Blogger page is different than our Newsletters on the goldenglovesftiness.com website. On this platform, we discuss more everyday life situations and on our official website we entertain more training, working-out and events at our gym. Now that we have this notion out of the way, let's get into today's discussion: boxing, fitness & rehabilitation.

When most people think about boxing, they think about boxers in the ring punching each other and they tend to overlook the fact that it can fit anyone's pace of life at their own discretion. At our gym in Vaughan, we come up with custom training for each and every individual because we know what is best for you. There is no rush, we explain to you all the training and procedures one step at a time. Most of all, we understand your level and goals and at the same time we maintain a fun, doable atmosphere so that you can benefit from working out at our gym.

The truth is, boxing is for anybody who wishes to move their body with the goal of being fit or returning to your previous level of fitness. With this sport you can rehabilitate back to strong standards by: moving your joints, muscles and sweating all that unwanted substances in your body. After working-out at our gym, you will feel great again, guaranteed! If you feel stiff or if you are not getting enough energy, boxing is an excellent source to revitalize your body.

Now, we must clarify a few points. The first is that our main coach Alex has been in the game for decades and knows what's best for your body. Please, let him know what you are experiencing and he will know what works best for YOU. The thing is, boxing doesn't have to this extreme, crazy sport where there are 2 guys punching each other, no. Boxing can be a rehabilitating sports that sets your body at a fitness level that works best for...YOU. That's right, you can always take it at YOUR pace because boxing is a science, a science for your body.

Since everybody functions differently, it is important to listen what your body has to say and acting upon it's requests. Warm those muscles & joints up, feel your stomach and legs, get a grip of your balance. These are all great rehabilitating ways to get you into that shape that you are always looking for. At Golden Gloves Fitness, we have the tools and skills that will help you advance to a whole new level of being yourself. And, while working out here, you will forget about your aches.

A fine example of rehabilitation at our gym is our member Halim. He lost over a hundred pounds and have
Halim lost 100 pounds and became fitter then ever!
become fitter than ever!

Finally, you have decided to boost your performance and you know where and when to do it. Now, it is the time for you to act upon it. No second thoughts! You have set your goals and now you have to do what works best for you with the right guidance and at our gym we provide you the right tools, space and ability to do so. So, please do not hesitate to come by, get in touch with us or to contact today to see how we can help you to become your better self.

All the best from the Golden Gloves Fitness Team and we are always looking forward to be seeing you fitter, better, and you being here!

It's never too late...

A lot of people think that they must compete if they want to box. That is not true, you can box Golden Gloves Fitness, we go at your pace and slowly push your body above & beyond. We understand that working out can be challenging that is why our head coach, Alex, is here to switch things up to keep your exercises interesting. At fitness gym in Vaughan, there is never a dull moment and always a positive atmosphere. You don't have to be competing just to exercise.

You can use your strength that you attain from boxing & fitness in many situations that you may encounter in life, physically and mentally. Listen to what your body has to say. Ask your body this: "body, where do you need to be worked on today?" And then concentrate on it and you will feel which muscles need to be developed and which bones need to be moved. As stated before in the previous post, it's all about: once you break that first sweat...

Once you break that sweat your muscles and bones become lubricated and it becomes easier for you to workout. You feel better and an hour just flies by. Generally speaking it is not recommended that you work out more then an hour and a half per day, unless your the next Jon Jones who takes a few hour breaks in his workouts and returns back to training. But, what other benefits are there when it comes to boxing & training? Well...that is a good question and they are (but not limited to):

  • Weight control/ loss
  • Health realization & motivation to improve your help
  • Getting rid of unwanted substances in your body
  • Increasing positive thinking due to endorphin release
  • Improving bone & muscle density

The last point is very important for those who wont to raise their weight. The impact that you receive back when punching the bag actually makes your bones and muscles denser due to resistance. If you are interested in more info about boxing & fitness or if you would like to get in touch with us, check us out www.goldenglovesfitness.com  or give us a call at 416-569-9381. We're always looking forward to be hearing from you and explaining to you how we can coach you boxing & fitness today.

When you break that first sweat

One of the best methods to change your mind and the way you are feeling is by breaking a sweat. Once you feel warmed up, you already start feeling better. It is better to keep on exercising constantly so that working out feels less like a chore. When you first break that sweat, it lubricates your muscles so that you can continue your workouts in the future. Indeed, boxing & fitness is for everybody and  our gym, located in Vaughan, is meant for anybody who wants to feel and look better.

Once you break that first sweat at Golden Gloves Fitness, you will feel much better and you will want to take on new challenges as you progress. At our gym, we train you how to be quick and at the same
time effective when training. Our head coach, Alex, is here to monitor your performance while you progress in your exercises. We will have your whole body moving each and every class! We train like we are going to compete because we want to see results. Please note, however, we always customize our classes based on your level and requests, you don't have to compete if you want to box!

Warming up, properly stretching and cardio is only the beginning of the workouts at our gym in Vaughan. We then progress to heavier exercises such as: weights, bags, and sparring. Our coach, Alex, will have you do rounds on the focus pads for the first few times you come to the gym before you feel confident enough to spar. At anytime, please do not hesitate to inquire about our fitness programs, we are more than happy to explain to you our training schedule.

It is all about going back to that moment when you first finish your workout; that you haven't had in a long time. That feeling of accomplishment, the feeling of being refreshed, like you are almost new. That is what we are about at our sports gym, we are about changing lives. We’re being fit at Golden Gloves Fitness

But, how are we being fit? And what does fitness mean to us?

At our gym, we take fitness and boxing very seriously. Our coach Alex always examines your stance and how you punch and corrects you as you go along. Only doing exercises properly will allow you to reap from the benefits. Boxing and fitness literally transforms you to a better physical and mental you. It allows you to reflect on yourself and ask: what can I be doing better? And this is when you ask our coach Alex and he will be more than glad to instruct you what to do next.

Aside from a good posture, we teach you how to be fast with your hands and how to be well-balanced on your feet. A good balance is vital for your boxing success in addition to calculating your space

between you and your opponent or the bag. At Golden Gloves Fitness, the bag is at first your opponent and then we pair you up with a partner to practice movements, techniques and to see how it is like to be sparring with another person.

When you are boxing, you enter the ‘zone’. A state that allows you to forget about everything: bad thoughts, a queasy stomach or even that tired-dragging feeling. Why is that? Well, it is because your body cleanses itself from all that unwanted substances and allows new energy to enter. Isn’t it great? So why don’t you come out and give boxing a try, it is for everyone, for all ages. And, yes, we’re open to anybody who wishes to improve their health and mental wellness.

At Golden Gloves Fitness, we are always looking forward to be seeing and training YOU!

Difference between boxing and fitness at our gym

At Golden Gloves Fitness there is a big difference between fitness and boxing. We understand that each and every member has their own personal requests when it comes to getting in shape. This is
why our trainer Alex is here to build a customized workout schedule that works best for you because we
want to reap the benefits from your exercises. Firstly, our boxing program focuses mostly on capability and technique. As for fitness, we focus on your overall body development and core. At our gym, we are dedicated to provide the highest services when it comes to you achieving your goals.

What kind of member do we have at our gym? At Golden GlovesFitness, we have an open-minded policy that accepts anybody who is interested in improving their health and wellness. We have children, adults, men and woman of all orientations at our location, located north of Toronto. Separate classes are always available upon request that you deem a suitable setting for your training and workouts. With free parking, change rooms and in a convenient location (Jane & Hwy 7) we are here to make it easier for you to get in the shape you want with our experienced instructors.

How will my first class look like? We start by analyzing your strengths and weaknesses and proceed to build your body and mind from there. We have small classes with 2-3 participants or individual personal one-on-one with coach sessions; please feel free to inquire us about our options by emailing us at goldenglovesfitness@gmail.com or by calling us at 416-569-9381. For boxing, we begin by detecting your technique and capabilities and correct them along the way. The training becomes more intense as we progress through the classes. As for fitness, we personally examine your capabilities and continue to develop your core, muscles, and physique according to your body’s demands.

Boxing and Fitness is great for your posture!

There are many ways you can improve your posture! But, boxing is one of the most effective ways. That is, if you do it properly. At Golden Gloves Fitness we help you have a nice stance and place that back right in the correct position that you have been looking for all this time!  Don’t rush to the bags just yet! You got to make sure you have that right orthodox stance first and be well balanced on your feet. Don’t curve your back or lean forward but rather slightly lean back and keep your back straight and round your shoulder blades around your head. First and foremost, you must do the proper stretching and warming up before hand. And only then you may proceed to hitting the bag.

Once you are ready, do not start with the heavy bag. Proceed to the light one first. Do easy jabs and focus on your balance. At our gym we have something called a double-end which is a bag that is stretched by 2 ropes at both ends and bounces back and forth each time you hit it. It is perfect for introducing your body to some resistance to your punches. Make sure you do each and every punch properly. Our coach Alex can definitely help you with that. Keeping your upper body up and hands close to your chin, you are ready to move on the heavy bag once you have finished with the light one.

At the heavy bag, try to do a mix of close and distance punches. Never repeat the same move over and over again because your muscles get used to the same movement very quickly. Try to do hooks, uppercuts and moving around the bag with agility while practicing. Always remember to keep a good posture and stance at the bag. Once you are done with the bags, do not finish your workout without calming down exercise. A light jog, some skipping rope or doing some abdominal work is always a good idea. As you can tell Boxing and fitness is a great source for your physique and posture

So, do not hesitate to come by our gym in Vaughan, 1st major intersection north of Toronto (Hwy7 & Jane) to give it a try and see how we are doing.

All the best and we hope to see you soon- the Golden Gloves team.
