Boxing is not only physical but also mental

This discussion has been waiting at our Boxing & Fitness gym in Vaughan for a long time: boxing is not only physical, it is mental. What do we mean by that? Today we will get into the details in the mental components in the sport of Boxing. Indeed, focus is very important in this sport. You want to land your punches on target. How do you perfect that? The answer is concentration. Use your mind to direct your arm at the bag. Strength isn't everything. Feel out your bag and use your mind to spot the good points to punch.

Indeed, at first this is rather challenging to comprehend. What does the mind have to do with physical strength? It does not have so much with strength but rather spotting weak points that you gotta punch. Strategy is key in boxing. Hitting the chin is much more effective than lending a bunch on the forehead. If you are mentally exhausted, these techniques are easily forgotten. This is when you train your mind to direct the punches accurately & effectively.

You don't want to over-exhaust yourself. You can avoid that by using your mind to plan out a strategy to defeat your opponent. Your mind needs to run a thousand thoughts a second in order to spot that weak spot and that is where you play it. Remember, every opponent is different and has different capabilities so do not ever underestimate your challenger but rather out smart him or her. It is never a good idea to dive into a spar without any plan at hand.

So, let's just simplify it a little bit, shall we? Use your mind to direct your punches at the target you want to hit. Hit the weak spots of your opponent to the achieve your goals. This is all great but now you can transfer this knowledge in other areas in life! As your mind gets sharpened in ring, it remains tuned on the street! The trick is to keep on practicing because just like the body, your mind will decline if you don't 'feed' it. So keep focused, my friends and always have a list of achievements you want to accomplish.

For Good Fitness Results Listen to your Body

Welcome to our day-to-day, more casual blog about our daily fitness life here at Golden Gloves blog. It is here where we discuss fitness, boxing, health and wellness. Today we are discussing how to get into the mood of working out and getting the best results out of your workouts. For most people, the hardest part of training is the beginning and getting into it. Especially if they have skipped a lot of days. There are many ways you can 'get back into it'. Let's go over them.

Firstly, don't look at the clock! The only time there is red tape is if it is past 9 PM. Otherwise, watching the clock closely will make you dread getting into the gym and while working out. The time moves slowly because you're watching it and not realizing the fact that the time will fly by once you start working hard in the gym. Personally, I don't even have a sports watch on when I work out, I put it aside on a table and use it as a timer instead, looking over from time to time but never consistently.

Secondly, BE COMFORTABLE. Having a hard time breaking a sweat? Maybe it is because your sports shoes are not comfortable enough or maybe because you have too much on your mind? Get rid of those barriers. Before you begin your workout, just focus on it mentally. Physically, dress comfortably in your gym clothes and make sure there is nothing interrupting your workout. Interruptions are the leading cause of incomplete workouts.

Thirdly, feel out your body, where it is stiff carefully stretch that area. Where there is not enough muscle, develop that portion. Taking notes is helpful, but only for some. I personally just take mental notes. I say okay: today it is my legs because my calves are not developed enough. Pay close attention to the physics of your body. Every persons' body is different and has different requirements: you know, deep down, what works best for you. Also, make sure you break that sweat, it contains unwanted substances that need to flushed out and that sweat sends a signal to your body that is is being worked.

Lastly, outside of the ring or the gym, have keen interest in the sport. Watch videos, talk to people about it, attend matches, and simply be all about it. At Golden Gloves fitness we eat, breathe and sleep boxing & fitness, it is all what we are about. It is easier for it to be in the mood because we are set and finely tuned to be training everyday or every other day. We make sure we are comfortable but at the same time ready for new techniques. We also keep a fun atmosphere and love to discuss boxing, fitness and wellness results.

If you are interested in consistent boxing & fitness results, please feel free to contact us today. We are here for you and your wellness. There is never a dull day at our sports gym in Vaughan, we are always looking into how we can switch things up when it comes to training and how to teach you how to be fast and effective. So if you feel like your body needs some work, don't think twice and contact us today to find out how we can assist you to become all the best that you can be.

Boxing changed my Life

Boxing changed my life to the point I can almost say it revitalized it. Every time I finish my training, I find myself thinking and performing better. All the sweating and moving allowed me to get rid of all the negativity accumulated in my mind and body. Sometimes all I needed is a distraction from all the busy stuff I have going on and I couldn't find anything, that is until I discovered boxing.

It was hard at first, but then I realized that once I got into it, it really got easier from there. The worst part I found is actually missing days because it just made it harder to get back into it. So now I work out every other day. I let one day to heal my muscles and the next day I came back to the gym to continue my training. When I am back in the gym, I really can appreciate my progress and feel like I can continue building my mind, body and boxing skills.

As I grew throughout the weeks, the head coach Alex really helped me stay focused and most
importantly: excited. It is easy to loose track and fall off training but Alex made sure things were interesting and that I continued improving. This really made me feel like I could expect to learn something new, each and every time I came through those doors. I really needed things to be switched up and my coach understood this fact very well. There was never a dull day training which was very important to me. And there was always something to do or to spar with somebody.

Alex really helped me with my self-defense by strictly re-assuring me on how to keep my hands up. At first, I was dropping my fists when I was punching but soon afterwards I stopped doing that because I didn't want to hear: "Keep your hands up!" again from the coach. After I got my defense techniques down, Alex proceeded to show me how to be more on the offensive rather than on the defensive. He showed me how to not to lean forward but rather dodge punches, keep my distance and counter punch my partner effectively.

With the defensive & offensive techniques being down, we later learned how to become faster, stronger and better with our bodies as a whole. It seemed to me like cardio and some strength building played  important roles here and so closer to the end of my workouts I do some skipping rope, running and fast to faster movements around the bags. Alex really helped me with how to become quicker and at the same stronger with my punches. I also gotta mention that he really helps with how to punch on target. By the end of my workouts here I really feel like I gave it all I got, thanks Alex!

Closer to the end of my classes, I could say that I have fun training at this boxing gym here in Vaughan. But, at the same time there is a serious feel that is intended to make me improve my skills at a good speed. I definitely like the intense bag exercises and all the equipment that is there in place; just right for my training. Thanks a lot for making my workouts so doable and available. I really like it how this place is always ready when it comes to training. Indeed, there is never been a class that I did not walk away feeling better and learning something new. Overall, I do feel more fit and all I do  is tell myself: it was all worth it!

Quickness and Boxing

One of the most primary concerns when athletes come to our gym is quickness. They want to be quick on their feet and with their punches. And, they have come to the right place! But, boxing can help you with quickness in other spheres of life. Like what you may ask? Boxing will increase your quickness of thinking, healing, and over all reaction speed. In today's post we will discuss exactly how quickness overall is shown in the sport of Boxing.

First and foremost, indeed, boxing does make your punches and feet faster. Thus, increasing your
agility. After months of training you will be able to move quicker, respond faster and dodge punches more effectively. These skills can be applied to other disciplines, not just boxing. Quick movement allows you to dodge whatever life hurls at you and remain vigilante. At our gym in Vaughan we will show you how to be light on your feet and fast with your hands.

But how does boxing make me quicker?
Boxing makes you quicker by you wanting to be more competitive! By showing you how to align and balance your body. It allows flushes your body out through sweat and gets your lungs pumping air. Indeed, a lot of our gym goers do get out of breath. But, they get better by each and every day! As the saying goes: "sore today, stronger tomorrow".

Now let's get into the more mental side of things. Boxing literally allows you to move every muscle in your body and make every muscle sweat. This is still physical, but wait for it...the sweat takes out unwanted substances like fat, bad food, nicotine, etc out of your body that in turn will increase your circulation. This circulation streams into your brain. Since it is clean and fresh, your mind accepts it effectively and clearly. With better circulation, you will think better and then you can apply your newly fresh thoughts at work, at home and just in overall life in order to benefit you and achieve your goals.

Reaction time is crucial in boxing and in life. What slows you down? Bad substances such as poorly prepared food, sugar, pop, salt, and other extra substances that you do not need and that slow you down. At Golden Gloves Fitness, we are all about reducing reaction time and all about acting in time. We make sure that you know how to block without any extra arm extensions, move your feet quicker without any extra steps and how to move with agility. Our head coach Alex examines your reaction to punches and movements and adjusts you as you go along.

Healing. We haven't forgot about this important aspect when it comes to boxing. But, doesn't boxing mean that you get hurt? If you do it to train and you are being training professionally, the answer is no and if you do get hurt then something is wrong. Our coach Alex makes sure that you are training correctly with your partner. As for the healing, well, your body creates new, fresh tissue on top of the sweated out pours so that you can have in turn a new layer of muscle, skin and tone. If you have a scab, it will heal quicker due to the fitness you have acquired.

We definitely give advice in health, fitness and how to improve your overall self. Please, feel free to inquire our head coach about them at any time. Golden Gloves Fitness is more than a gym, it is a health and wellness center. We are here for you and we always keep it %100 at our sports gym located just north of Toronto. The following is a recent experience from a member at Golden Gloves Fitness in Vaughan:

After yesterday's experience, I just have to let everyone know that I feel great! But, why would I let everybody know this? And, I will answer that exact question. The reason why I felt compelled to let everyone know that I felt great is because of the motivation, energy, and good feeling started to enter my body after my workout and I want everyone else to benefit from it.

The truth is working out gets harder only if you let a lot of time to transpire from your last workout. Just like reading, your reading speed slows down the longer you put the books away, same with working out. If you start skipping days, it only become harder. If you make it a routine, working out become literally second nature. It's the same with gaining weight, if you get used to eating a lot, it becomes subconscious. Working out too becomes subconscious. That is why it is important to switch things up and at this gym never a workout is the same. All thank to coach Alex!

The reason why I rushed to the gym the other day is because I was feeling stiff. It's normal to have You need to grease the gaps between your muscles with sweat. And, boxing is a great source for that. I guess that is where fitness comes in when you are boxing. That sweat works as a lubricant for your muscles for them not to have traction between each other. Thus, leading you not feeling stiff. Without that sweat, your muscle become tense.
stiff muscles. Why? Well, as your muscles become bigger there is more to maintain.

Once working out, training becomes second nature; there is no telling how far you will go. You forget how much of a dread it was to get back in the gym. The trick is not to allow yourself to fallout from that routine. But don't make your training too representative though! Our head coach Alex is great at preventing your workouts from becoming too redundant. The other reason why I ran to this gym yesterday is because my bones were cracking, my muscles felt flat and I felt overall shabby. My workout at the gym got rid of all that. You can bet on that!

After my workout, my muscles felt more round all of the sudden. My bones weren't cracking and that down feeling I was experiencing was gone. It was like going to see the doctor without seeing the doctor. Fantastic. I am very grateful that Golden Gloves Fitness put my body back on track and now I can think clearly and most of all: ambitiously. Now I feel like I can employ my body towards my goals outside of the ring. I will definitely not fall back on my workouts anymore as in the end of the day it is all worth it. I don't feel like I wasted any time here or missed out on anything; after all what's an hour dedicated to a workout but good health and energy?

Golden Gloves Fitness- not your regular boxing gym

The following is an experience of one of our gym members:

I just worked out and I already feel better! The beginning was really tough. I missed about a week because I was sick earlier but today I felt like I could step into the gym. What I did not know is how much of a drag it is to simply begin exercising. But today when I stepped inside Golden Gloves Fitness, a boxing gym in Vaughan, I felt re-energized as soon as I entered. How come? This is the question that I will answer to you today.

I already felt better because of the positive atmosphere the head coach Alex maintains and the fun but
yet serious attitude everybody else has. People here are great. They will hear you out and they will practice with you. Before I knew it, it was easier for me to work out because this gym made it possible for me to forget my stiff muscles. All of the sudden I was drenched in sweat and wanting more!

And I got more. This gym has all the equipment, tools and energy that I need to workout, and not only to workout but to train. Each and every time I come here I get this feeling that I want to push my body above and beyond. When I am doing something wrong, luckily I have Alex to adjust me. He has a curious, attentive attitude and sometimes he might get strict but that is because he wants you to learn and benefit from your training.

A combination of the right equipment, people and coach is the recipe that any anybody, not just me, needs to get back into it! Now the trick is to make your attendance and workouts habitual. You cannot do 1 workout and think you will have a body or skills transformation. There is a strict routine to follow. Luckily, Alex, knows that doing the same thing each and every time also slows down results. That's why he likes to switch things up. Surely, I tell you, there is never a dull workout at this place! With the help from the coach, I am always improving onto whole new levels.

Movement, Agility & Boxing

The science of boxing is a lot like the science behind your body. The better you understand how your body works & moves, the better you will be at boxing. But, how can you understand your body better? Where to start? These are the first types of questions that come to mind to somebody who has not begun body building and following up by body improvement. Today's article is exactly about answering these questions.

Firstly, you want to begin by starting with the basics: your weight. Your body literally works-off
your weight. That's right, you might not realize it yet because you haven't started controlling your weight or you haven't gotten it to work for you, yet. Start by recording your weight and set the weight goal that you are looking for. Let's say your are 155 pounds and want to be 175. Literally, just gain 5 pounds, workout to get muscle density for the return of 8 pounds, then, you are all of the sudden: 163 pounds. The 3 extra pounds that you gained was from the workout and from the extra weight your body has to pull of the sudden.

Now, let's say you want to loose weight instead of gaining it. You should eat less meaty/ fatty foods and more vegetables and increase your exercise intake, including: running. By slimming down, there is less fat for your body work-off, therefore leading you to loosing weight even faster. Just as a recap: your body works-off the weight you have. At Golden Gloves Fitness, we are experts in weight classes. We also have an Ideal Protein clinic on 2nd floor for those who wish to control their weight on a whole new level. Once again, we are located in Vaughan, ON.

By controlling your weight, you become more aware of how your body moves and you also develop your agility at a faster rate. These new discoveries will allow you to become better at the sport of boxing. Moving fast is crucial in this sport, that is why you should focus on how fast your body reacts rather than appearing larger to intimidate your opponents. Like most boxers, you can see that their slim & fit rather than bulky with a lot of muscles. The reason for that being is because they sweat a lot more of the unwanted fat out than the average person!

So, the main message is: boxing is a great sport for weight control and overall movement improvement. You want to be fast on your feet and quick to react. And, at Golden Gloves Fitness, we are here to improve exactly that. Our head coach, Alex, is here for all of your fitness, boxing & wellness requests. At our gym in Vaughan, we are always here for YOU because we are your #1 stop for health & fitness. We are always looking forward to be training and seeing YOU, our enthusiastic gym goer. See  you HERE.

Boxing, Fitness & Rehabilitation

Welcome to our Blogger page! Before we get into this time's topic, we would like to mention how our Blogger page is different than our Newsletters on the goldenglovesftiness.com website. On this platform, we discuss more everyday life situations and on our official website we entertain more training, working-out and events at our gym. Now that we have this notion out of the way, let's get into today's discussion: boxing, fitness & rehabilitation.

When most people think about boxing, they think about boxers in the ring punching each other and they tend to overlook the fact that it can fit anyone's pace of life at their own discretion. At our gym in Vaughan, we come up with custom training for each and every individual because we know what is best for you. There is no rush, we explain to you all the training and procedures one step at a time. Most of all, we understand your level and goals and at the same time we maintain a fun, doable atmosphere so that you can benefit from working out at our gym.

The truth is, boxing is for anybody who wishes to move their body with the goal of being fit or returning to your previous level of fitness. With this sport you can rehabilitate back to strong standards by: moving your joints, muscles and sweating all that unwanted substances in your body. After working-out at our gym, you will feel great again, guaranteed! If you feel stiff or if you are not getting enough energy, boxing is an excellent source to revitalize your body.

Now, we must clarify a few points. The first is that our main coach Alex has been in the game for decades and knows what's best for your body. Please, let him know what you are experiencing and he will know what works best for YOU. The thing is, boxing doesn't have to this extreme, crazy sport where there are 2 guys punching each other, no. Boxing can be a rehabilitating sports that sets your body at a fitness level that works best for...YOU. That's right, you can always take it at YOUR pace because boxing is a science, a science for your body.

Since everybody functions differently, it is important to listen what your body has to say and acting upon it's requests. Warm those muscles & joints up, feel your stomach and legs, get a grip of your balance. These are all great rehabilitating ways to get you into that shape that you are always looking for. At Golden Gloves Fitness, we have the tools and skills that will help you advance to a whole new level of being yourself. And, while working out here, you will forget about your aches.

become fitter than ever!

When to Sweat it Out?

At Golden Gloves Fitness, we like to sweat it out. But, lately, a new question has come about at our gym in Vaughan: if you're sick, should you sweat it out? Today's article is exactly about this question: when and where you should you workout if happen to be 'sick'. Being sick is a broad term, you can have a stomachache or the flu. In both cases you should take precautions. If you have a light stomachache because you might of ate something that your stomach did not like: working out lightly to sweat out the unwanted substances in your body is OK. Matter of fact once you get into your workout, you might even find yourself forgetting that you had a stomach ache in the first place.

But, if you have the flu, you should NOT work out. You should take it easy and let your body take on the flu for itself as it will need the energy to do so. However, stretching lightly will not do any harm. Stretching for about 15-20 mins might even make you feel better and allow your body to sweat out the flu out of your pores. Now, let's go back to the main question: if you're sick should you workout? In most cases, the answer is no and it depends on what is making you sick.

If you are feeling crappy because of bad nutrition, an effective workout will burn out all the unwanted substances in your body and clear your stomach for you to eat something better or healthier later, after your workout. Just a quick reminder: never workout after eating. If you happen to eat, wait at least 30 minutes before your workout. Generally speaking, it is better to eat something after your workout. If you are looking to increase your weight: smoothies are a great source to do that!

So, if you happen to be really sick don't workout but rather to a light stretch. If it is nothing serious, a workout might just distract you and your body for the sickness and make you feel better. It all depends, you know your body best. Some unwanted feelings suck anxiety, stress, and depression that can make you feel dizzy or 'sick' can also be treated with a good, well-balanced workout. If you have any questions or if you would like to get in touch, feel free to contact us today for more information.

At Golden Gloves Fitness, we are ALWAYS looking forward to make you feel better and making you look better. We would like to wish you all the best in 2017 and see YOU HERE.
